enXco Service Corporation (eSC) has signed an operations & maintenance management agreement with a subsidiary of BP Wind Energy for its Edom Hills wind energy facility.

Located in the San Gorgonio Pass of Riverside County, California, the 20 MW project consists of Clipper Windpower Liberty 2.5 MW turbines.

Under the multi-year agreement, eSC will provide operation & maintenance for the balance of plant as well as oversight of the total project.

The project is located in an area where enXco Service Corp first began providing O&M services on 65 kW turbines nearly 20 years ago.

BP built 340 megawatts (MW) of wind power capacity in 2007, a transformation from two years ago when it had just 32MW at two wind farms in the Netherlands. Its building programme follows a series of acquisitions and partnerships that in the US alone have provided the opportunity to develop nearly 100 projects with a total capacity of 15,000MW.

The company plans to have 1,000MW of gross installed wind capacity by the end of 2008.

To its credit, it has built the 300MW Cedar Creek wind farm in Colorado with its partner Babcock & Brown. The development consists of 274 wind turbines and generates enough carbon-free electricity to power up to 90,000 average American homes annually. Other major projects under way include two wind farms in Texas - the 60MW Silver Star I and the 150MW Sherbino project – being built in partnership with Clipper Windpower and NRG Energy respectively.
