Construction on a new 50 MW solar field starts in Spain

Solel and Valoriza Energia, after announcing their plans last year, are jointly developing the project.

Solel Solar Systems has started construction on a 50 MW solar field in Lebrija, Spain. The $150 million project, which features SunField LP technology and equipment, is being developed in partnership with Valoriza Energia, a subsidiary of Sacyr Vallehermoso. The project will be operational in 2010.

This project is the first of three thermo-electric solar power plants planned by Solel and Valoriza Energia. The total power output of the three plants, all to be built at Lebrija (Seville), will be 150 MW. It was decided that the plants will use the latest cylinder-parabolic trough collector technology available, and are to be built progressively over four years, involving a total investment of US$400m.

Solel will provide its UVAC 2008 solar receivers for the plant as well as being involved in project design, engineering and integration services. Valoriza Energia will provide  the power block, civil works, and auxiliary systems to the consortium.
